2010 Spring Merit Scholarship sponsored by Lara Day

A.J. Bonilla is a Tau (University of Florida) alumna currently enrolled in a PhD program in Cell Biology at Dartmouth. She graduated with a 3.65 GPA in Biology while involved in leadership roles as an Alpha member of her chapter. Interested in community service, A.J. founded the Society of Biological Sciences at UF, which has Service as one of its cornerstones. This biologically oriented group educates the community about endangered species and volunteers at the Retirement Home for Horses to care for neglected and unwanted animals. After graduation, A.J. volunteered with the Student Conservation Association as a biological field technician to collect samples in the Sierra Nevada Mountains for carnivore population analyses. She is active in the Tau Chapter Alumnae Association, and is the creator of the Google map of Phi Sigma Rho alumni.

A.J. writes: "Today, I realize how generous my sisters truly are. As a recipient of a 2010 Merit Scholarship, I realize that my sisters desire to help me continue my education. I realize that my sisters know that academic excellence, as a mission of Phi Rho, is of utmost importance if we are to build the future of technical studies. I realize that this scholarship was given with love through the bond of sisterhood, hope that it will bolster a fruitful academic career, and trust that this investment will be returned by success."
