Fall 2010 Merit Scholarship Winner
Kathryn (Katie) Trase is a Beta (Ohio State) active studying Industrial & Systems Engineering with a possible minor in Nuclear Engineering. She maintains a 3.66 GPA,
and will be graduating in June 2011 with Honors. She is a member of several honor societies: Texnikoi, Alpha Pi Mu, and Tau Beta Pi.
Katie has had many leadership positions in her chapter including Treasurer and President and has made quite an impact. She has reorganized the way the financial
records are kept to make them easier to use, adapt and refer to. She has transferred chapter files into a digital data storage through the University online system.
Katie’s goal is to reorganize the chapter so it will function more efficiently.
In addition to Katie’s time spent on her academic pursuits and Phi Sigma Rho, she takes the time to mentor international and minority students. She also volunteers
at a nearby science center to introduce middle school and high school girls to engineering.
Jennifer Kramer, a Beta Chapter alum, wrote this in her recommendation letter: Katie “is a well rounded, heavily involved, strong leader in everything
she does, and her passion for excellence is contagious. Katie is a star example of what a Phi Sigma Rho sister should strive to achieve.”
