Hey Phi Rho!

I’m assuming your on this page because you’re interested in applying for a scholarship from the Phi Sigma Rho Foundation. First off, thank you for your interest! The whole mission of the Foundation is to promote social responsibility, personal integrity and lifelong enrichment for the members of ΦΣΡ (aka. You). One of the many ways the Foundation serves its purpose is to help you by giving away scholarships.

Right now the Foundations offers two types of scholarships. The first is based on merit. Now I know that merit is a scary word, but what it boils down to is if you’re a good student, you’re a leader with ΦΣΡ and work to make your community a better place, then you’ve got merit. That in itself makes you a great candidate for a merit scholarship.

The second scholarship is based on leadership. Yeah, yeah, I know, another one of those ambiguous scholarship words, but here’s what it really means. If difficult classes have really gotten the best of your GPA, but you still work hard to serve your house (aka. ΦΣΡ) and your community by stepping up and solving problems then you are a leader. Since this is a leadership scholarship you should apply!

Now, we at the Foundation get a lot of questions about who’s eligible for these scholarships, so here’s the final word. Any initiated member (active or alumna) who is currently pursuing a degree at an accredited university (Read: You don’t have to be an engineer!) is eligible to apply. The only thing we ask is that applicants have at least a 2.75 average GPA in their current academic program. However, due to conflict of interest policies, no member of the Foundation Board of Directors, Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee or any Foundation volunteer is eligible to apply.

So by now you’re probably thinking that you could definitely apply (and maybe even win) for one of these scholarships, so what’s the next step?? Well, that’s fairly easy...just follow the steps below:

  1. Decide which scholarship you would like to apply for. Sure you can apply for both, but you can only win one.
  2. Fill out the application in its entirety. There’s even a checklist on the back page to help you out.
  3. Send your entire application packet to the Foundation at the address on the application by May 15, 2010.
  4. The Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee will decide the winners by June 15, 2010 and will notify you by mail. The winners will also be announced during the LEAP Leadership Conference at Case Western July 16-18, 2010, so you should definitely plan on attending!

I think that’s all I have to say about scholarships right now, but if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me at FoundationScholarshipChair@PhiSigmaRho.org. I’m also on facebook and linkedin, so if you’d rather contact me that way just add me as a friend.

Best of luck with all your studies! Did you do something scholarly today?

PRL,
Tammy

P.S….So far the Foundation has given away five $500 scholarships to these sisters. I would say extraordinary sisters, but all Phi Rhos are extraordinary, so I guess these girls are just like you and me...well...except $500 richer ;) Click on their names to learn about them and what they had to say about their time with ΦΣΡ!
