LEAP
(Leadership Education And Programming)
LEAP is a leadership development program to provide leadership
development opportunities for all Phi Sigma Rho sisters. It is
the goal of LEAP to provide education and programming in all
areas relating to leadership, life skills, personal growth and
academic excellence. As stated within the Phi Sigma Rho national
objectives, personal integrity, academic excellence and personal
achievement are ideals upon which the sorority is built. LEAP
addresses these Phi Sigma Rho characteristics by providing
national guidance for the achievement of excellence.
LEAP workshops are available through the following means:
National Leadership Conference was first hosted by LEAP and Phi
Sigma Rho in 2006. Every other year, in the off years from
National Convention meetings, LEAP will hold a leadership
conference to help certify and train the future leaders of Phi
Sigma Rho.
National Convention Workshops Leadership workshops at National
Convention are held by LEAP to provide necessary training for
leaders, opportunities for chapters to learn from each other,
and other development programs. The first LEAP Workshops were
held at National Convention 2005 on Leadership in
Membership/Colony Education, Recruitment Overhaul, Leadership
Transition, and Communication, Conflict Resolution, and Crisis
Management.
Chapter Support Workshops LEAP will work with all chapters and
provide training and workshops as requested to further its
leadership development and work with chapters to resolve
problems. Contact the LEAP committee if you would like
leadership training.
LEAP Leadership Incentive: The LEAP Leadership Incentive is

Girls, Inc.
Outreach
Girls, Inc. and Phi Sigma Rho have partnered
to advance the opportunities available to young girls in the
Operation SMART program run by Girls, Inc. affiliates. This
initiative encourages the future leaders of tomorrow to embrace
science and math. We are happy to announce that Heidi Nielsen,
Eta Chapter alumna, has taken on the position of Girls, Inc.
Outreach Coordinator for Phi Sigma Rho. In this role, Heidi will
be coordinating volunteer and programming efforts between the
two organizations. She can be reached at
this address.
About
Heidi:
Currently, I live with my husband and puppy in the Ann Arbor, Mi
area. I'm a Process Development Engineer at Aastrom Biosciences,
a small regenerative medicine company in clinical trials with a
biologic to treat heart failure. I graduated from the University
of Michigan (Eta) in 2008 with my Master's in Biomedical
Engineering. At UofM I served terms as the President and Vice
President of Standards during my undergraduate years. I'm
looking forward to getting involved with Phi Sigma Rho at a
National level and am excited to help PSR become more involved
with the community, especially to encourage more girls to pursue
interests in Math and Science.
Letter Writing to Girls, Inc.
Its time to go back to your girly roots while cheering girls on!
Celebrate girlhood!
We all know that being a girl interested in math, science and
engineering can be tough but highly rewarding. Join the Phi
Sigma Rho letter-writing campaign benefitting girls in the Girls
Inc. program. Have fun and give back by sharing your stories
with young girls who could use an encouraging boost. By
partnering with Girls Inc., we hope to inspire girls to be
STRONG, SMART and BOLD and show the next generation how weve
succeeded. Letters can include stories like how much you liked
dissecting frogs in science class even though all the other
girls thought it was gross or how you were better than all the
boys in your math class.
Feel great reminiscing about growing up while helping a young
girl pursue her dreams. Letters can be personalized with
stickers or fun gel pens and pictures. Go all out and have fun!
Each letter will be addressed to a unique girl in need of a pep
talk. All sisters attending National Convention are encouraged
to pick a girl or two and write a fun, short letter. Letters
should not include personal information such as last names,
addresses or information inappropriate for a young girl. A pen
pal relationship is not required and cannot be pursued unless
you are contacted by the Girls Inc. facility.
If youre interested in joining the campaign, please contact
Heidi Nielsen.
